Complete Reflection; including as an IB Learner
This project has definitely helped me to widen my area of knowledge and aided me in gaining maturity on this topic. The study of psychology is quite an intriguing one, the more you research the more you want to learn and even pass on knowledge. Through my project, I learnt why teenagers function the way to do, what causes them to behave this way and how they can overcome these problems. Most importantly, a major aspect that helped me learn more was passion and personal connection. I was able to study a completely new subject-Psychology, which I’ve always wanted to learn, with the project being an excuse, but with good intentions. I was able to feel the project, mainly due to the focused age group- teenagers, and personally connect myself to the entire project. For example, by researching ways to overcome depression, stress or other factors that can damage your health, I made it a point to always refer to this video and apply these tips to myself.
My knowledge on the global context- Identities and Relationships has increased thoroughly and I realized that this global context is not only about beliefs, values and human relations, but way beyond this confined definition. I now know how interactions can lead to benefitting the society and helped me build relations with others through communication. There is much more to social, physical and mental health, nonetheless, cultures and other circumstances play a big role on the lives of teenagers, maybe even inversely affecting who they are and develop to be as adults.
Personally, I feel like I developed the IB learner skills- ‘Open-minded’, ‘Inquirers’ and ‘Communicators’. By keeping an open mind, I was able to be open to a lot of different perspectives and perceptions of viewing things. I could evaluate the project through a number of viewpoints, like how would a teenager feel in a certain situation as compared to an adult. I also developed a natural curiosity and learnt to acquire different skills that were necessary in research and actively enjoy my part. Researching about the content was a main aspect of inquiring further and immerse deep into the topic. Being a communicator was key here since in order to be open-minded and further inquire, I needed to communicate. I communicated through a form I made and also with my supervisor.
