Learn About my Product
As mentioned earlier, my product was decided to be a YouTube video that would be successful in incorporating my goal and research question. Critically speaking, my product was challenging, however deciding the content and aesthetics was a separate challenge. I needed to research and then shortlist relevant and important points of information. In order to achieve this, I needed to plan, sort, and create. Restrictions due to circumstances limited my options to mainly online. I made complete use of digital mediums and technological availabilities to create my product and decided upon a simple yet direct product- a video to be published on YouTube.
The big challenge was finding a suitable platform to create my product. PowToon was my first idea, but I thought of using a website that was unique. I looked at the templates and design elements of different websites. I started creating the video on Prezi, however much information couldn’t be added to it. Then, I used Vimeo and added some information there, but it wasn’t suitable since it wasn’t professional. I decided to keep it less complex and stuck to using PowToon due to its variety of design options that were creative and interactive. I had used PowToon earlier as well, so I had a basic idea of how to use it.
I first decided the theme to be colourful and fun. Initially, I thought of a formal theme, but decided it would be ‘boring’ for the viewers.
Secondly, I decided on the text and duration for the video. The text should be easy to read and understand. I used ‘Schoolbell’, size 42 and saw that it best suited the theme of the video. I was confused whether to make the text colourful or to use a single colour throughout. I experimented with a variety of colours and came to the conclusion that ‘black’ would be the best and it matched the theme too. For the duration, I decided that the duration of the video should be sufficient and not monotonous for the audience and planned each slide accordingly.
Thirdly, the two most important aspects: the title page and content. This was very important since, by looking at the beginning of the video, the audience would judge the entire video, hence the title needed to be a hook and the title page, appealing and appeasing. I inputted some images, icons and elements that would add to the overall aesthetic of the theme and video. Upon researching the content was vast, but it needed to be relevant, sufficient and informative, therefore, I created sub-questions under the inquiry question and research about them mostly.
Finally, I compiled everything by adding images, aesthetic elements etc. to visually appeal the viewers and interest them and arranged the slides.
This creation procedure can be seen in the following tab. Throughout creating the product, I made multiple changes in the content and aesthetics. For e.g. I edited out some complex information and manipulated the colour scheme for each slide. Originally, my video was going to be a short film where I would take interviews of teenagers. However, due to the situation and I was not able to carry out what I aimed to do. Hence, I thought of a YouTube video. It was challenging since there was much information needed to be included which should be appropriate and correct. This was a task since I had to cut short a lot of facts or change the wordings. I thoroughly enjoyed creating the video and providing a vibrant visual experience to the viewers but alongside, spread my knowledge of the topic and develop various skills.
